Evogene has a team of veterinarians, scientists and technicians specialising in advanced reproductive technologies, including ovum pick-up (OPU), in vitro fertilisation (IVF), embryo cryopreservation, and embryo transfer, supporting both cattle and equine breeding programs.

Every program is tailored, so costs vary, but our focus is always on value and consistent performance. By maximising program results, through improving donor performance, increasing embryo yield, maximising semen usage or creating genetic diversity, Evogene’s OPU-IVF services are competitive and often prove more economical than conventional methods. We provide clear, upfront pricing so you know exactly what to expect. Please contact the team to obtain your quote.

At Evogene, Precision Drives Results! Our IVF laboratory is equipped with the same high-precision technology and equipment trusted in human reproductive medicine. Combined with our team’s extensive experience and supported by rigorous Quality Assurance and Control systems, our lab delivers exceptional performance and consistency. With a deep commitment to Australian agriculture and animal welfare the Evogene team manages every step of your program with precision and care, ensuring your experience is efficient, flexible, and secure. When outcomes matter, every detail counts – and we never compromise.

With traditional breeding—simply running cows with bulls in the paddock—there is a limit to the number of offspring from elite females, and this results in slow genetic progress. Advanced reproductive technologies like Ovum Pick-Up (OPU) and In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) allow you to maximise the impact of your top donors by producing many more calves per year, accelerating herd improvement while preserving valuable genetics.

Compared with conventional flushing techniques, IVF and OPU offer further advantages:

  • Less stress and labour for the donor: Cows don’t require the same intensive superovulation hormone treatments used in flushing, making the process lower impact and repeatable more often.
  • Flexibility across donor types: Oocytes can be collected from open cows, pregnant donors (up to 100–120 days), heifers, and even from donors with fertility issues that don’t respond to conventional flushing.
  • Efficient use of semen: OPU-IVF allows multiple embryos to be produced from a single straw, providing the option to fertilise oocytes from many cows with the same straw of semen. This lowers semen costs and expands breeding flexibility.
  • Increase genetic gain: Collected oocytes can be split and fertilised between multiple different sires following one OPU session.
  • Breed-specific performance: Some breeds, particularly Bos indicus cattle, consistently yield more embryos with OPU-IVF than with conventional flushing.
  • Higher frequency of collection: OPU-IVF can be performed weekly or fortnightly, whereas conventional flushing is usually limited to every 60 days, giving faster genetic progress.
  • Long-term security: Embryos can be cryopreserved at the ideal stage of development, ensuring safe storage and flexibility in timing transfers.

Together, these advantages mean OPU and IVF are not only more versatile and cost-effective in many cases, but also a powerful tool to accelerate herd performance and deliver greater value from elite genetics.

Based in Queensland, Evogene provides both donor centre and on-farm services across QLD and northern NSW, with travel zones designed to make advanced reproductive programs accessible and convenient for clients.
