With deep roots in regional Queensland and decades of hands-on industry knowledge, Mat brings a grounded, practical perspective to everything we do.
As a Director and co-founder, Mat plays a vital role in shaping Evogene’s strategic direction. With a sharp eye for opportunity and a passion for progress, Mat helps ensure our operations remain connected to the people and producers we serve. His experience across livestock management, property development, and rural enterprise gives him a unique ability to bridge business insight with on-the-ground practicality.
Mat’s leadership is informed by a life spent in agriculture—from contract mustering in the Top End to real estate and livestock agency work, and now, driving innovation in cattle reproduction services. His knowledge of the full livestock supply chain—from paddock to processor—adds valuable depth to our team.
Mat grew up on a cattle property near Crow’s Nest, Queensland, where he was immersed early in life with livestock, earthmoving, and working dogs. After completing his studies at Emerald Agricultural College, he headed north, spending six years contract mustering across Queensland and the Northern Territory. He then transitioned into livestock and property sales in Blackall, gaining key insights into marketing and value creation in rural Australia.
Together with his partner, Dr. Stacey Rae, Mat co-owns the Monto Veterinary Group, a thriving multi-vet practice in Central Queensland. The couple also run a cattle backgrounding operation, reinforcing their commitment to the agricultural sector at every level.
Mat is passionate about helping producers access tools and technologies that make a measurable difference to productivity and performance. His goal at Evogene is to keep innovation practical—delivering reproductive services that are not only cutting-edge, but also accessible, efficient, and grounded in the realities of rural life.
